James Davis’ self-expression through his hands with sign language as well as in his artwork dates back to his childhood. A meticulous draftsman, James’ illustrative drawings often feature safari animals in situ or vast landscapes, sometimes geographically specific and other times ambiguously removed. Animals are often used as a proxy for people in James’ life and upon closer examination, one can see the subtle use of humanistic expressions giving character and familiarity to these otherwise exotic creatures.
