Creative Growth is pleased to present Zina Hall’s online viewing room, launched on Wednesday, April 28, 2021.
Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, in 1964, Zina Hall eventually moved to Oakland, where she learned to sew by making clothes at Fremont High School. After graduation, she honed her machine and hand-stitch skills by making quilts with "the old ladies'' at the Veterans' Center across the street. When she arrived at the Creative Growth Studio in 2006, her practice grew to focus on embroidered depictions of her family, celebrity icons of her childhood, and favorite old TV shows.
The viewing room will explore the foundation of Zina’s textile work, the evolution of her technique, and the development of her nostalgic practice. This will be a rare opportunity to view and purchase a sizable collection of works from the artist, and we are thrilled to share them with you.
