Advocate for the SSI Restoration Act

Support the Supplemental Security Income Restoration Act currently being considered by Congress
August 24, 2021

As a disabled board member at Creative Growth, the SSI Restoration Act is exceedingly important to me and to our entire community. I agree with Representative Jamaal Bowman in calling the current state of the SSI program ‘a national scandal.’ The law has remained unchanged since 1972, leaving people with disabilities behind and forcing them to live significantly below the poverty line. On behalf of our artists and all citizens with disabilities, please contact the White House and congressional leaders to let them know your support of this act.

Sincerely,
Katherine Sherwood, Creative Growth Board Member

DRAFT  message:

Dear ____________, I am writing to urge you to endorse and advocate for the inclusion of Representative Jamaal Bowman's and Senator Sherrod Brown's SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY INCOME RESTORATION ACT in the reconciliation bill currently being considered in Congress. Now is the time to fight for its inclusion in the reconciliation bill. The fact that the United States government's current support for individuals with disabilities is well below the poverty line is shameful and needs to be corrected. The original act passed in 1972 was intended to assure those with disabilities that they would not need to subsist on below poverty-level incomes. Today, it helps ensure the opposite. Please prioritize the inclusion of this Act in the reconciliation bill. It is the right thing to do on so many levels. Thank you for your leadership at this important time.

Sincerely,
Name
