25 September – 30 December 2016RECEPTION: Sunday, September 25, 2:30 pm–3:30 pm
Late American artist Judith Scott (1943–2005) is widely known for her engrossing, enigmatic fibre sculptures. Enveloping found objects—from wood to magazines to bicycle wheels—in yarn, thread and knotted cloth, Scott created dynamic, strikingly original forms from the sparest of materials.
In the 18 years that would follow until her death, Scott would produce a masterful body of work, achieving international recognition for her arresting sculptural forms. Surveyed here in Canada for the first time, this exhibition will cover a broad spectrum of Scott's output, foregrounding its formal innovation and visual complexity, and charting her significant influence on contemporary sculptural practices.
Judith Scott is presented in partnership with the 2016 World of Threads Festival.
