Recollection is a time capsule and a personal invitation to step into the spirit and determination of an organization, its founders and an un-stoppable community of artists.
During the most recent installment of the Creative Growth 40th Anniversary exhibition series (1974-2014), an attic of ephemera has been unearthed, making tangible the many milestones that the studio and gallery have achieved over four decades.
The Oakland gallery will become an interpretation of the historically referred to “living room”--which as the story goes, is where Creative Growth founders Dr. Elias Katz and his wife Florence Ludins-Katz first introduced the Creative Growth program.
Viewers are invited to look through archival periodicals and video clips of iconic Creative Growth artist documentaries. An interactive bulletin board asks for visitor participation via contributed mementos and written anecdotes. An immersive slide installation will provide a visual experience of the organization’s long history and unwavering commitment as an art center dedicated to the artistic expression of artists with disabilities.
