October 5 - November 9, 2012 Saturday Stroll Tour, Saturday, October 20, 2:00-4:00PM Fiber Foundations--Beginning with Judith Scott, led by Stan Peterson of Creative Growth. Meet up at Farley's East (coffee shop) at 2PM and head as a group, over to Creative Growth, then off to other Oakland Art Murmur galleries and spaces!
Wrap, sew, hook, weave – the act of making in the Creative Growth textile studio is a process of repetitive action and intuitive reaction. In the exhibition Unraveled, Creative Growth documents their rich textile tradition during its fall season launch—from distinctly unique hooked rugs, to the wrapped sculptural works of internationally acclaimed artist, Judith Scott.
Unraveled will take a closer look at two emerging textile studio artists, Tony Pedemonte and Carlos Perez. The work made by Pedemonte and Perez appears to pay homage to the three-dimensional, accumulative work of Creative Growth artist Judith Scott—however, neither artist has had any direct exposure to Scott’s work. Join Creative Growth in this multi-layered look at one of its most popular media.
