Grants Associate

The Opportunity
The Grants Associate is an integral member of Creative Growth’s team and plays a key role in the organization’s fundraising efforts. Do you enjoy crafting written narratives? This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic candidate to grow their grant writing and fundraising career. Specific responsibilities include coordinating Creative Growth’s Institutional Funding program with the Development Director and supporting general fundraising efforts.
The Organization
Located in the heart of Oakland, Creative Growth Art Center is the oldest and largest nonprofit art studio for artists with developmental and concurrent disabilities. Since 1974, Creative Growth has played a significant role in increasing public interest in the artistic capabilities and achievements of people with disabilities, providing a professional studio environment for artistic development, gallery exhibition, and representation. Founded upon the idea that all people are capable of producing works of high artistic merit and that the act of creating can be transformative, Creative Growth now serves 160+ artists with disabilities and positions their work within the contemporary art world. At Creative Growth, the process of creating is honored and celebrated, and the impact of that recognition and appreciation transforms the lives of the artists.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Institutional Funding (including regional, foundation, government, and other support)
Write grant proposals and reports, manage the grant calendar, and develop relationships with program officers and foundation contacts
Research current and potential funders and partners
Complete foundation surveys
Manage funder crediting for print and web
Administrative/Contributed Income
In coordination with the Development Director, maintain development database of individual and institutional members and donors
Assist with annual fundraising appeals, including drafting correspondence
Manage database gift entry, maintain donor renewals, track and acknowledge donations, measure success
Generate donor/gift analysis to demonstrate results; provide reports for review and decision-making
Develop content in support of annual impact report
Miscellaneous
Attend occasional evening and weekend receptions and events, including Creative Growth gallery openings, annual Beyond Trend runway event and Holiday Sale, and community events
Participate as may be requested or required when “all hands on deck” are needed to support Creative Growth events

Qualifications
You are an ideal candidate if you:
Are an exceptional writer, organized, detail oriented, results driven, and able to prioritize
Excel at time management and have a track record of meeting deadlines
Have a working knowledge of fundraising best practices and strategies
Are familiar with financial statements and drafting project budgets
Can articulate organizational goals in writing
Have knowledge of disability advocacy and the contemporary art world
Are enthusiastically committed to the vision, mission, and core values of Creative Growth and possess compassion and respect for all client artists and their families

Requirements
College degree or equivalent work experience (some non-profit experience preferred)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office or an equivalent; familiarity with FileMaker Pro or other CRM software preferred
Ability to attend occasional events on evenings and weekends, such as gallery openings, lectures, and fundraisers
Be able to sit for prolonged periods at a desk and work on a computer
The ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times
Successful completion of the following background checks and clearances, as mandated by the State of California, California Care Licensing (CCL), for all employees of licensed facilities such as Creative Growth:
o Record of criminal history obtained from the California Department of Justice, i.e.,
clearance to work in a licensed facility;o Record of health screening, including negative TB test results; and
o First Aid and CPR certification
Special Environmental Factors
The Creative Growth Studio is a busy, active, open environment, with an average of 75 client artists with disabilities attending classes each day.
The Creative Growth Studio is equipped with heavy machinery in the woodshop, which occasionally makes loud noise and generates dust.
Several administrative offices are located on the second floor, accessible by two sets of stairs and an elevator.
This position reports to: Development Director
The Grants Associate is a full-time non-exempt position with a robust benefits (health, vision, dental, PTO) package. Creative Growth is unable to provide housing or travel assistance. The Creative Growth workweek is 35 hours, 8:30 a.m.– 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional events on evenings and weekends.
