Join Creative Growth artists and the Oakland community for our annual Collage Party. Organized by Winnipeg artist and curator Paul Butler, The Collage Party is a participatory gallery and studio event where everyone is invited to cut, paste, and create. The week of collage culminates in a celebration and exhibition of the week’s creations, 10am – 6pm on Saturday, April 15th, while collage making continues. We are thrilled to bring this popular and historic event back to our space after a long hiatus

Access Oaktown: In the Neighborhood with Creative Growth

Creative Growth is pleased to announce Access Oaktown - In the Neighborhood With Creative Growth, a two-day gallery opening and poster launch party. Access Oaktown will celebrate Creative Growth Art Center's neighborhood and community of nearly 50 years and includes a month-long poster installation across the Lake Merritt, Uptown and Downtown areas of Oakland. The event coincides with Oakland Art Murmur's First Friday on March 3, 2023 with a gallery opening and art show celebrating the personal histories of Creative Growth's Uptown neighborhood as told by Creative Growth artists.

Creative Growth is pleased to announce a new group exhibition opening soon:

“RECENT ABSTRACTION” | February 3 – March 9, 2023

Recent Abstraction brings together new work by over 20 artists currently working in the studio at Creative Growth. This exhibition explores themes of abstraction across mediums, scale, and subject focus featuring recent paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography and ceramics. Bold mark making, strong colors and unique vision are typical of the work created by Creative Growth artists and Recent Abstraction is an opportunity to see how different artists approach Abstraction with their own unique style.

Artists such as Cedric Johnson, Jessica Rodriguez, and Daniel Hamilton explore bold and graphic shapes. Jordan King, Joseph Alef, Dan Miller and Lauren Dare use a repetition of lines that build universes of color and texture. Artist and resident abstractionist, Nicole Storm, returns with a site-specific installation that will take over our front window box.
